Performers
In a change to our advertised concert, we are delighted to offer an evening infused with the spirit of dance. Sophie Rosa, Roberto Carrillo-Garcia and Gemma Beeson take us on a tour of Latin America and Europe. Major works by the king of tango, Astor Piazzolla, frame a programme of music from Spain, Italy and Brazil, and one of Roberto’s own compositions closes the concert.
It promises to be an evening that will leave a smile on your face!
Sophie is a violinist who won both second prize and the audience prize at the 2011 Manchester International Violin Competition. She now has a busy career as a soloist, chamber musician and guest leader of orchestras across the UK.
Roberto is one of the UK’s leading double-bass players and guest principal with several orchestras. He is also a guitarist and a player of the viola da gamba. He appeared with his double bass at the Royal Northern Sinfonia’s recent concert of 1920s music at Sage Gateshead.
Gemma has performed around the world as soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. She appears regularly in the Hallé Orchestra playing piano, celeste and synthesiser keyboard, and has played in live broadcasts with the BBC Singers.
