Performers

Regular musical partners, Laura van der Heijden and Jâms Coleman, come to Hexham with a programme inspired by their recent highly acclaimed CD release, Path to the Moon. They will also play an arrangement for cello and piano of Franck’s famous violin sonata by one of the composer’s friends, Jules Desart.

Laura won the BBC Young Musician competition in 2012 when she was 15 and has gone on to establish herself as as one of the leading cellists of her generation. She is equally at home as a chamber musician and as a concert soloist, and has already built up an impressive catalogue of recordings. Her recent recording of concertos by Bridge, Walton and Cheryl Frances-Hoad has been praised as ‘mesmerising’ by Gramophone magazine.

Jâms performs regularly at the major festivals and venues in the UK and continental Europe. He has made concert appearances with orchestras such as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Britten Sinfonia. He is also much in demand as a recitalist and has accompanied some of the biggest names performing today, including Sir Bryn Terfel, John Tomlinson, James Gilchrist, Robert Plane and the Royal Northern Sinfonia’s new artistic partner, Maria Włoszczowska.
