Ensemble 360

Sunday, 21st January 2024 – 3.00pm  (Note earlier starting-time)

Performers

Formed in 2005 to continue the great legacy of the Lindsay Quartet, Ensemble 360 are a world-class chamber group based in Sheffield and at the heart of the annual and international Sheffield Chamber Music Festival. They have a glowing reputation around the UK for the quality of their performances and the range of their repertoire –  a reputation acknowledged in 2023 when they were shortlisted for the Royal Philharmonic Society Ensemble Award.

Many of the ensemble’s 11 members are principal players in some of Europe’s top orchestras. All count amoung the UK’s finest musicians. Four of them join us in Hexham this afternoon for a programme featuring three masterpieces of the piano quartet repertoire. Mahler’s unique one-movement quartet is followed by the too rarely heard second quartet of Gabriel Fauré – whose first is also well worth hearing – and the programme ends with Dvořák’s second piano quartet, an assured work written just before the composer’s great eighth symphony. What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
